SA Police Shocked As Thieves Dig Up Grave & Steal Corpse

Police in the Limpopo province of South Africa has a peculiar case on their hands after thieves stole a corpse from a grave in Makwakwaila, leaving it empty.

One of the family members discovered that the grave was tempered on Sunday when she cleaned the grave site ahead of a ceremony to unveil the tombstone.

Modike Philemon Masedi died on 15 January last year and was buried seven days later.

SA Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the motive for the incident is not yet known as the police hunt for suspects.

“Upon arriving at the scene, police were met by the unusual sight of the violated grave having a hole and an open coffin with no corpse inside.

“Preliminary probe conducted at the scene established that the suspects accessed the graveyard by cutting the side fence. They then dug a hole next to the grave, accessed the coffin, and stole the corpse. The motive for this incident is unknown at this stage,” Mojapelo said on Tuesday.

Investigators in Mokwakwaila opened a case of desecration of a grave and theft of a corpse.

Mojapelo said provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe “expressed shock” at the criminal act and ordered the perpetrators be hunted down and brought to book.

She warned community members to allow police to do their work.

“We call on community members in the area to respect the unfolding investigations conducted by the police and desist from pointing fingers, as these often play into instigators of vigilantism in which people take the law into their own hands,” she said.

I Never Set My Wife Ablaze

An Ibadan-based medical doctor, Abdulfatai Onifade, has debunked reports that he set his wife ablaze.

Onifade, who works at the Chemical Pathology Department, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan is also the director of the Mercy Medical and Pathological Center in Osogbo.

In a chat with Prime Business Africa, the medical practitioner said his wife burnt herself while setting his hospital ablaze on the night of 26th December 2022.

He said he got information that his wife was involved in extra-marital affairs and was confronted with that, and in reaction, she attempted to kill him through stabbing and strangulation but could not succeed.

Giving further his account of what happened between them, Onifade stated that when he observed the level of rage in his wife and her attempts to cause more trouble, left the house for her on the evening of 25th December to allow peace to reign.

Onifade said: “We were doing well till around the middle of August when she started the troubles. Later, she apologized. She later asked for the money I owed her which was calculated to be 20 million but insisted on 25 million. She started withdrawing the money from all the accounts she had access to, till she completed it within three months with the hope that all my organizations would fold up.

“We are going on well. I insisted in September that all the children must be in a boarding school for proper training because they live with their mother in Lagos. She and her family begged for the children to remain with their grandmother till they get to secondary school which I reluctantly accepted because of peace.

“Meanwhile, some residents have been informing me that she is having extramarital affairs with local kings in my school area. I confronted her on November 17th through WhatsApp because she was expected to return from Lagos that day or 18th. To my surprise, she was not able to respond well to my allegations and did not show up till December 24th.

“On arrival at about 9.30pm, she started arguing that I must bring my three witnesses that saw them having s3x. The next, she broke bottles in an attempt to stab me but my children blocked her. I tried to maintain peace having seen her reaction and relaxed. She thought I was sleeping and tried to strangulate me which I resisted with force.”

At this point, Onifade said his wife prevented him from going out until his hospital staff came around 9 am and informed him that a patient needed urgent attention.

Continuing, he said: “When I saw that she was determined from her posture to cause more troubles, I left home quietly at about 5.30 p.m. on December 25th to lodge in a hotel and switched off my phone because I was tired and did not sleep. I switched on my phone at about 10am to receive the news my hospital wing was set ablaze by her around 2 a.m. 26th December and she was burnt. The hospital lawyer invited the police and ordered she should be taken to the University Teaching Hospital for proper care. She declined care at the teaching hospital at about 10 p.m. and her relatives took her to Lagos.”

In a statement released earlier, the medical practitioner had described as false and malicious, a report in an online platform which alleged that he was the one who burnt her.

“For the sake of putting the record straight, all that the blogger wrote were complete lies, Margaret Reis Udo was caught in the web of her evil act while trying to set the hospital ablaze after wetting it with petrol because I confronted her about extramarital affairs with a king.”

19-Year-Old Apprentice Stabbed To Death By His Friend In Benue

A 19-year-old apprentice, Sekegh Aku, was stabbed to death by his 17-year-old friend in Benue State.

The incident happened at Tomahar Street in the Gboko Local Government Area of the state after a minor argument between the deceased and the suspect identified as Torver Kunav.

Speaking to the Punch, a relative of the deceased, Terwase Evelyn, said Sekegh and Kunav, had been friends before the tragic incident.

"I was not around when the incident happened; it was my son in Abuja that called me and said I should come back home, that something bad happened on January 9, 2023, around 11am," she explained.

"I am like a sister or mother to the deceased. We stay in the same compound. He is like a son to me; his name is Sekegh Simon Aku. His mother and I are from the same local government and we relate more like sisters. So I was very close to him just like a mother,"

"He was just into a mere argument with his friends. They had been friends for some time now; it did not happen in the house, it was in a nearby house because the immediate elder brother of the deceased was there with them.

"According to him, it was just a mere argument, not a serious issue, and in the course of the argument, he tried to stop them from shouting at each other. Sekegh didn’t know that the boy had the intention of harming him. He was talking to his brother when the boy removed a pair of scissors from the bag he had on him and stabbed Sekegh. He died immediately. By the time the news got to the mother, it was too late; he had already died,"

"The boy who stabbed the deceased is very arrogant and troublesome; he is known by everyone around to be very troublesome; he has no good qualities or character at all. We had even tried to separate him and our son but we live on the same street. He stays with his parents and he has landed them in trouble countless times.

The case was reported at Gboko Central Police Station and policemen from the station took Sekegh’s body to the mortuary, she said, adding that the suspect has been arrested.

"It was the boy’s mother that personally reported the case to the police; I guess for fear that he could be attacked. So, the boy was arrested and detained by the police. But presently, his relatives are nowhere to be found; they packed all their belongings and fled their house," she further said.

The woman described Sekegh as a good boy, adding that he earlier revealed that the suspect had threatened to kill him.

"He was from Konshisha Local Government though born and raised in the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State where he lived until his death. He was a free-spirited boy; everybody wanted to be around him. He was an apprentice, learning carpentry.

"Sekegh always said the boy constantly tormented him, and used to tell him that one day he would kill him; that one day he would stab him to death but nobody believed that it was going to happen; we thought it was a joking matter; we thought it was the usual jokes by children.

"The father of the deceased is dead, and it has not been easy with the mother, but the eldest person is the one sorting the case. We are yet to get any feedback from him; we are waiting for him," she added.
