Police in trouble for rape

Although the said officer who has been identified as Jervasio Njeru, denied raping the 42-year-old woman he has been made to appear before court.


According to the prosecution officer on the case the case happened on May 31, 2020, at the police station in Embu North Sub-County at the police station when the woman was released from custody on a free bond and was required to report to the officer the following day for interrogation.


The victim was said to have escaped from the officer after which she reported the matter to the same police station and was later taken to the Embu Level Five Hospital where she is receiving treatment.

With this the prosecutor asked the court to deny the accused bond on the ground that being a senior police officer, he would interfere with the witnesses who are junior police officers who were on duty when the woman was raped.

But his lawyer Momanyi Gichuki opposed the prosecution’s request, telling the court that his client is no longer a police officer after following his dismissal from the service after the alleged offence.


But, in his ruling, The Magistrate ruling the case , Maxwell Gicheru ordered the suspect to be released on Sh500, 000 bond with a surety of similar amount and the matter to be heard on June 16.

The officer is accused of raping the woman while interrogating her over allegations that she had received money by false pretence from one Stephen Gathiru.
