Ahmet Yirtici launched a brutal knife attack on Guldane Yirtici before she had even carried their baby boy in her arms.
She had to be rushed from the maternity ward to intensive care for emergency treatment for her multiple stab injuries, but luckily survived.
Ahmet Yirtici, who showed no feelings of guilt during his trial and blamed his wife for provoking him, has now been jailed for 18-and-a-half-years in Turkey.
A court heard his pregnant wife had told him earlier she no longer wanted to be with him and wanted a divorce.
But she was not suspicious when he arrived at the hospital, in the Turkish city of Gaziantep, when she went into labor on August 24, 2019.
Guidance thought he wanted to see his son, but instead, he waited until the boy was safely delivered before he pulled out a knife.
He then stabbed her multiple times at the Dr. Ersin Arslan Training and Research Hospital.
The motive for the brutal attack was his anger that she wanted to leave him, the First High Criminal Court in Gaziantep was told.
He denied attempted murder and refused to accept anything that happened was his fault.
And he blamed his wife for provoking him by demanding a divorce.
But his defense was rejected after CCTV footage and doctor’s reports and witness statements were presented to the court.
The judge said he did not qualify for a reduced sentence because he showed no sign of remorse.
