Tactics to Help Avoid Sexual Assault and Rape

Decisive Behavior

Alertness and decisive behavior may be your best defense against becoming an “easy prey.”

1.    Walk directly, confidently and at a steady speed.

2.    If you feel you are in danger of being attacked make attempt to take off on time, if it is possible.

3.    Try anyhow to attract attention to yourself. Shouting on top of your voice “Call 911or “Fire” is a good way to accomplish this.

4.    If you are being followed move to where there is enough illumination where you think there will be people to help you.

5.    Be cautious and weary. Know where the exits are if you are in a building. In crowded places such as nightclubs, churches, mosques, theaters always let someone know where you will be. Do not go to isolated places in a building, if you must go, take someone along. Always turn around and look at whoever may be behind you.

6.    If you walk or jog for exercise, make sure to change your route intermittently. To be predictable is dangerous.

7.    Join some self defense classes e.g. karate.

8.    Always make sure to trust your instincts. If your instincts tell you it is not safe, leave the place immediately.

9.    Make sure you don’t go out alone in the night if you can afford to. Go out with a friend(s).

10. If you suspect any suspicious movement, make sue you call someone’s attention or use your phone. Even if the deed has been done, please do not keep mute so we can remove such person(s) off the streets. Thereby helping others live safely.

These tactics does not guarantee there will be no sexual assault; it is just my little contribution to help someone from becoming a victim.
